Mertz Joseph Kaspar
Duetten für Guitarre und Pianoforte
München, Jos Aibl., 1852-64, 1864
DK-Kobenhavn, Det Kongelige Bibliothek
When Joseph Kaspar Mertz gave a performance in Dresden in 1842, he was introduced to the young pianist Josephine Plantin, who had been booked for the same concert. They undertook a tour together, chaperoned by Josephine’s sister, and they became engaged. They married in Prague on December 14th, 1842. The duets which they performed together during their concerts, until Mertz’s death in 1856, remained largely unpublished and the manuscripts have been lost. Only five published by Aibl in Munich: a mazurka, a barcarolle, a divertimento on Verdi’s Rigoletto and two Tonstücke.
